The Newmarket Elementary School band program is open to all students in 4th and 5th grade who wish to learn an instrument. No prior musical experience is necessary; I will teach your students everything they need to know to become instrumental musicians. Students will learn instrument care and assembly, proper sound production, and how to follow a conductor in a large ensemble. Learning an instrument is a positive and fun way for students to learn self-expression, coordination, self-confidence, and teamwork.
Students may choose from flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone or percussion. Students must provide their own instrument and the “Standard of Excellence” music book to be a part of the groups. If you need to rent an instrument, please join us on September 29th at 6:00 in the NES café. David French Music Company will be present to help you with this process.
Beginning band is made up of 4th and 5th graders who are in their first year of learning an instrument. Beginning band students receive a weekly half hour lesson during the school day and also participate in beginning full band, which meets after school on Mondays from 3:00 – 3:45.
Second-year band is made up of 5th grade students who are in their second year of learning an instrument. Second year band students receive a half hour lesson during the school day and also participate in second-year full band, which meets after school on Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:00.
All band students will participate in two concerts this year:
