During the Newmarket Elementary School's annual Field Day opening ceremonies, two deserving faculty members were presented with the Nicholas Popov Memorial Award by the Newmarket Community Education Partnership (NCEP). Recipients Jocelyn Robinson and Nancy Wood were surprised and honored to receive the award. In addition to the award, each received a $750 grant to be used to further enhance social, recreational and educational experiences for children and youth in town.

Nancy and Jocelyn were nominated for this award by peers for their "above and beyond" dedication to children at the Elementary School. Among other things, Nancy was instrumental in starting the garden club at the school which has offered countless opportunities for children to learn about plants, growing systems, sustainability and nutrition. Jocelyn has been a huge advocate for the needs of special education students by helping to coordinate resources for families. Both Nancy and Jocelyn are quick to offer help to fellow faculty members and often can be found attending before and after-school events.

The Nicholas Popov Memorial Award, generously funded by Mr. Popov's family and administered through NCEP, is given annually to a member of the Newmarket Elementary School or Jr/Sr High school community. The recipients demonstrate the spirit and personal generosity, kindness and service for which Mr. Popov, a longtime Elementary School volunteer, was known. The contributions he made to Newmarket were valuable and personal. He helped others out of love for people rather than a need for personal gain, and he shared his skills, interests and time freely. The recipient of this award shows a commitment to supporting Newmarket's children and youth through actions and efforts that help to build a caring community. This year, NCEP was fortunate enough to share the award with the two recipients.
