My name is Diane McFarland. I have taught for many years, starting in special education, then teaching first grade, second grade and finally “landing” in third grade where I have stayed for quite a while. My name used to be Hughes but changed when I got married in September 2012.

I grew up in Exeter and I live in Portsmouth with my husband. I love to read, bike, snowshoe, hike, walk, or relax on the couch with a cup of tea. I’ve recently taken up winter hiking. The trees are so beautiful all covered with snow, so crisp and white. Being surrounded by nature is uplifting.

I love teaching. The kids in my class are my main priority, and I strive to make their education productive and enjoyable. I'm always changing and improving lessons from one year to the next. I challenge the kids to learn and grow, and we definitely have fun.
